It is hard to quantify the number of volunteers and hours it takes to make the Ellis County Master Gardeners Lawn & Garden Expo a success. There were over 2000 visitors this year with more than 60 vendors. Over 5,000 vegetables and perennials were sold. Wow!
This was my first expo to both attend and volunteer at. I spent the day in the Children’s workshop and had the fun job of handing out stickers and free plants. Everyone loved me! On a more serious note, over 200 kids visited the children’s workshop and explored the 12 stations developed around the “Garden Hero” theme. Whether they were participating in games for water conservation, learning how to take care of bees, or digging their hands into the dirt to explore worm composting, you could see the smiles on their faces.
My own kids, 4 and 6, were able to participate as well. As both a Mom and a Master Gardener Intern, I feel blessed to have been a part of this incredible event. I know many other parents and kids who felt the same way, as the praises rang about the event.
I’m looking forward to the next event in 2023. Be on the lookout for dates and make sure to reserve your calendar to come out to the next Lawn & Garden Expo!
