Ellis County Master Gardener College Scholarship Program 2022
In 2003, the Ellis County Master Gardener Association (ECMGA) began making scholarships available to graduating high school seniors residing in Ellis County. One of the educational objectives of the ECMGA is to encourage Ellis County students to pursue college studies in horticulture and related agriculture-science fields through the awarding of college scholarships. The ECMGA wanted to provide financial aid to those students that chose college/university studies in horticulture and/or agriculture-sciences related disciplines through its college scholarship program. Since the inception of the ECMGA College Scholarship Program in 1993, 49 graduating high school students have been awarded a total of $98,100.
This year marks the 20th year that the ECMGA has offered Ellis County graduating high school seniors the opportunity to apply for college scholarships. Again this year, the ECMGA has allowed former 2021 ECMGA college scholarship awardees currently enrolled at Colleges/Universities with degree plans in agriculture-science and horticulture related programs to also apply for a 2022 scholarship to continue their college/university studies. This year, the ECMGA has awarded $3,000 to the 2022 College Scholarship awardee.
For the 2022 Scholarship Award year, ECMGA has awarded its College Scholarship to the following Ellis County student who will be entering his sophomore year at Texas Tech University in fall 2022. Mr. Brayden DeBorde is the recipient of the “2022 Monty Dale Gearner Memorial Scholarship Award” — $3,000.
Mr. Brayden DeBorde is enrolled at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, where he is studying agriculture-science/land management and ranching. His career plans include obtaining a degree in the field of agriculture business-economics and farm/ranch systems management. He plans to return to a life of farming and cattle production on the family farm in Ellis County once he completes his studies at Texas Tech.
Information for the 2023 Scholarship Program will be posted in Fall 2022.
