So come join us!  The date is March 25.

Expo Speakers

This year we have four speakers covering diverse subjects.  You’ll want to attend them all!

10:00: Maureen Nitkowski – “Gardening for a Sense of Place”  Maureen came to Texas years ago and has been an Ellis County Master Gardener for twenty years. She has also been a Master Naturalist for 11 years.
Maureen’s training is in biology and chemistry. She is committed to research-based continuing education for all ages.

11:00: John Thomas co-founder of Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg shares the What, Where, When and How of growing wildflowers.

12:30: Ginger Cole – Pollinators – Ginger has been gardening in Ellis County for almost 50 years.  Along the way she has added chickens, goats* and beekeeping to her “urban farm”.  Ginger is an Ellis County Master Gardener and is also involved in many other community activities.

2:00: Andrea DeLong-Amaya, director of horticulture at LBJ Wildflower Center in Austin, takes us on a journey of the Botanic Garden of Texas and explains how to use Texas native plants in unexpected ways.

Children’s Workshop at Expo

There’s excitement and education happening again this year in the Crape Myrtle room of the Civic Center.

This year our theme is “Wild About Gardening” and we are leaning into the wild side of gardening with some exhibitors that will excite and educate the kids.

Texas Discovery Gardens will be joining us with live butterflies, moths and bugs to examine.

Amethyst Stone of the facebook page “What kind of snake is this?”, will be bringing her collection of native Texas snakes to observe.

The John Bunker Sands Wetlands Center will have a tank full of micro invertebrates to explore.

Also on hand will be Ellis County Heritage Farm,  Keep Waxahachie Beautiful and lots of Master Naturalists and Master Gardeners with some “getting your hands dirty” activities from  pollination to composting.

Come join us March 25th  as we get Wild About Gardening!
